Spiritual Actions: What Can We Do?

What Can We Do?

As individuals, we can feel utterly powerless in of national or world crisis. In our vulnerability we are apt to lock into the fear, freezing, rather than taking positive action. Yet, there is much we can do, to help the victims, to protect ourselves and to affect a positive outcome. Here we explore some of the options. Tell us what you think we can do.

Spiritual Actions

In the years since we first opened the Global Psychics sites, there have been numerous times when we have been asked to comment and offer insight on disasters that affected thousands, often millions of people. Here we share our thoughts and what we can do in the face of catastrophe… start with the inner work…

In the Wake of 9/11 – Look Inward….

Certainly this is the time for prayer, a time to send healing energies, and the frequency of love to all who populate this planet. It is a time to reach out to one another, from the soul, to connect in love and prayer… but I believe that there is an even greater spiritual work at hand.

This is the work that we must each do in the privacy of our homes and personal lives to take personal responsibility for the Attack on America on Sept 11, 2001.

Each of us must be brave enough to venture into that unknown territory of our subconscious selves to identify and eradicate our hidden hatred, judgment, guilt, and resentment. We must be willing to notice and address the private conflicts that have interfered with our personal growth and are now manifesting as one of the greatest power struggles in our history.

We must disallow entry to the victim in each of us. We must have courage. We must affirm our personal power. One by one, through this deep personal work, we can change the course of history.

One of my first reactions when I saw that the World Trade Center had been violated in such a terrible way was that my anger with the world’s economic systems was in the cockpit of one of those lethal planes. I was terrified that my thoughts might have manifested in such an ugly way. I know that many others in the spiritual community asked themselves the same question. And I am sure that I am not alone in renewing my commitment to the Light with a far greater attention to transforming my angry thoughts and feelings.

I believe one of our greatest tasks as individuals right now will be to personally commit ourselves to noticing and transforming our thoughts and feelings. We must each take responsibility for transforming the dark within us to Light. For the danger is not external… we cannot build walls high enough to keep the danger out. It is time now to acknowledge that the real danger is within. The real danger is the fear, the guilt, the anger, the resentment that has driven us to hate or to engender hatred in others.

We create our own reality… through our thoughts, feelings and loving actions. We have witnessed now what we create when love is lacking, when hatred and fear is allowed to reign. Now it is time to see what is possible when we allow love to reign.

A Letter from Neale, Marianne, James, James and Doreen:

Dear friends around the world.

The events of this day cause every thinking person to stop their daily lives, whatever is going on in them, and to ponder deeply the larger questions of life. We search again for not only the meaning of life, but the purpose of our individual and collective experience as we have created it-and we look earnestly for ways in which we might recreate ourselves anew as a human species, so that we will never treat each other this way again.

The hour has come for us to demonstrate at the highest level our most extraordinary thought about Who We Really Are.

There are two possible responses to what has occurred today. The first comes from love, the second from fear.

If we come from fear we may panic and do things-as individuals and as nations-that could only cause further damage. If we come from love we will find refuge and strength, even as we provide it to others.

This is the moment of your ministry. This is the time of teaching. What you teach at this time, through your every word and action right now, will remain as indelible lessons in the hearts and minds of those whose lives you touch, both now, and for years to come.

We will set the course for tomorrow, today. At this hour. In this moment.

Let us seek not to pinpoint blame, but to pinpoint cause.

Unless we take this time to look at the cause of our experience, we will never remove ourselves from the experiences it creates. Instead, we will forever live in fear of retribution from those within the human family who feel aggrieved, and, likewise, seek retribution from them.

To us the reasons are clear. We have not learned the most basic human lessons. We have not remembered the most basic human truths. We have not understood the most basic spiritual wisdom. In short, we have not been listening to God, and because we have not, we watch ourselves do ungodly things.

The message we hear from all sources of truth is clear: We are all one. That is a message the human race has largely ignored. Forgetting this truth is the only cause of hatred and war, and the way to remember is simple: Love, this and every moment.

If we could love even those who have attacked us, and seek to understand

why they have done so, what then would be our response? Yet if we meet negativity with negativity, rage with rage, attack with attack, what then will be the outcome?

These are the questions that are placed before the human race today. They are questions that we have failed to answer for thousands of years.

Failure to answer them now could eliminate the need to answer them at all.

If we want the beauty of the world that we have co-created to be experienced by our children and our children’s children, we will have to

become spiritual activists right here, right now, and cause that to happen. We must choose to be at cause in the matter.

So, talk with God today. Ask God for help, for counsel and advice, for insight and for strength and for inner peace and for deep wisdom. Ask God on this day to show us how to show up in the world in a way that will cause the world itself to change. And join all those people around the world who are praying right now, adding your Light to the Light that dispels all fear.

That is the challenge that is placed before every thinking person today.

Today the human soul asks the question: What can I do to preserve the beauty and the wonder of our world and to eliminate the anger and hatred-and the disparity that inevitably causes it – in that part of the world which I touch?

Please seek to answer that question today, with all the magnificence that is You.

What can you do TODAY…this very moment?

A central teaching in most spiritual traditions is: What you wish to experience, provide for another.

Look to see, now, what it is you wish to experience-in your own life, and in the world. Then see if there is another for whom you may be the source of that.

If you wish to experience peace, provide peace for another.

If you wish to know that you are safe, cause another to know that they are safe.

If you wish to better understand seemingly incomprehensible things, help another to better understand.

If you wish to heal your own sadness or anger, seek to heal the sadness or anger of another.

Those others are waiting for you now. They are looking to you for guidance, for help, for courage, for strength, for understanding, and for assurance at this hour. Most of all, they are looking to you for love.

We love you, and we send you our deepest thoughts of peace. Neale, Marianne, James, James and Doreen

Practical Actions

The first thing you can do to help the people affected by a catastrophe is to create some new images to replace those that have flooded our minds from the media attention… we must replace the pictures of rubble-clogged throughways, flooded streets and broken homes with images of these places in all of their glory. If we want a speedy recovery, we must see folks dancing in the streets again, neighbours calling across their balconies… we must smell the food cooking on stoves again, see the countryside lush and and green, children playing, people working, industry thriving, bridges and highways rebuilt… these are the visions we must each, one by one, project onto the face of these horrendous events.

Then we must see the purpose in this mass event, the multiplicity of purposes for the world, the nation, the many communities, and each and every person… and project a loving trust that each person affected is a hero somehow, bigger, greater than a survivor… this event was created by our mass consciousness, a great cleansing called for here… so now we are forced to clear… if each of us would clear the deadwood, the stink and decaying debris from our own personal lives as prayer for those who have lost their homes and livelihoods we might be able to push this clearing and the related recovery along at an astonishing rate… so give it a shot…

Do something positive. Take your anger and fear and anxiety around these awesome natural events and do something with it… make a donation to the organizations who can help – then start projecting images of the peoples and places in trouble as happy, and thriving… and then go the next step – get really serious about looking within to clear the debris from your own life… make an active meditation of it, clean out your own basements, garages and closets and drawers in honour of those who are clearing the tons of debris from their flood-ravaged homes..

As you tend to your life, project all of the love and good feelings that you can muster, and send all these good feelings out to the folks who really need them… you can make a difference… change the way you think and feel and change the world… any disaster gives us an incredibly powerful reason for getting to work.

There are many practical actions that we can each take. In addition to giving blood and money and responding to any requests for emergency aid or supplies, we can individually adopt a personal program that will contribute to protecting our long-term security.

Here is a list of spiritual measures that I think we can each take in the coming weeks to protect ourselves – and perhaps avert a Third World War.

Pray, Be Loving; You might wonder why I might put prayer at the top of the list of practical things we can do… but I believe in the power of prayer and I believe that love has the power of bringing balance, truth and accountability into any crisis…. so, I believe that praying and loving are the two most important activities that we can dedicate ourselves to in the next days, weeks and months. Pray with others whenever you can, invoke the power of light and love wherever, whenever, and with whomever you can.

De-Centralize; Never again can we allow the world’s financial wizards and resources to huddle together in one business location, for whatever purposes. The power of the Pentagon, despite the physical damage was not seriously interrupted because there is no one center of military power in the United States. The Pentagon is an administrative center, a symbol of power more than an actual source of much power.. America’s military leaders are strategically dispersed around the country, as are the country’s munitions. The financial community must apply the same sort of strategic planning to its business affairs. Its peoples and resources must be dispersed among the many communities which it serves, rather than head-quartered in an Ivory Tower… Downsizing and centralization amongst the corporate world has put the world’s economies at risk in a very real way… making them easy targets…now we must be willing to invest in redistributing our financial and industrial power and resources so that they are dispersed into small units which can be easily supported and protected.

Commit Random Acts of Kindness – This is the right time for each of us to decide to be kind, to reach out to the strangers around us and offer a helping hand. This is a way of making visible our commitment to bringing light and love on the planet… the more random acts of kindness that we can extend to each other, the less likely we will be to fight one another.

Educate Yourself; It is easy to criticize and judge others, for the color of their skins, for their beliefs, for the costumes they wear… but the challenge, especially now, will be to avoid judgment and to reach for understanding. Judgment is simply a reflection of our fear. Let us be brave and be willing to shed light on our fears, the light of understanding. Take time to learn about the history, the geography and the sociology of each of the countries in the news before you make an opinion about invading them. Learn about the different faiths and cultures, participate in their ceremonies where you can, broaden your horizons and your perspectives. Try to walk a mile in their moccasins… Seek truth, especially from within.

Listen from the Heart; We think we listen with our ears, but the truth is that our ears are only the receptacles of sound… and our brain is only the translator of these sounds….it is our heart that makes the soul connections that enable us to truly hear, not just the words, but the feelings that come with the words. And it is our heart that will tell us when we have heard truth. After every disaster, there will be hundreds of stories, rumours, and speculations about what has happened and what will be next. Spreading these rumours, reacting to the stories, simply adds to the confusion and fear… but when you listen from your heart, you will be able to discern what is untrue and can avoid getting caught up in the fear.

Get Back to Work; We all need time to assimilate what has happened when a disaster hits, and the many who have been personally attacked will require a time to grieve. The rest of us must show our love and support for them by getting back to work. We must not allow fear or terror to reign. All able-bodied citizens of the world must be willing to dig into their work, whatever it may be, with a renewed vigor and trust.

Attend to Your Family and Your Roots; Our strength as individuals, communities and nations is dependent on our willingness to respond to the needs of our brothers and sisters. If we would each look to strengthening our family relationships, we will survive and thrive. And if we listen from our hearts,m choose not to judge, we can make friends of our enemies.

Get involved

Here are some useful places for you to take some real action.

To remind you of why working on yourself works, here is an extract from an essay created from Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting : The Astonishing Power of Feelings by Lynn Grabhorn…

Says Lynn: “We create by feeling, not by thought!

The Law of Attraction – like attracts like- is absolute (and has nothing to do with personalities) (Ed: or luck or even fate). No one lives beyond his law, for it is the law of the universe. (or at least of this dimension, like gravity, what goes up must come down). It’s just that we never realized until recently that the law applies to us too. This is the law behind success or failure. It’s what causes fender-benders or fatalities. It is, to the point, what runs every waking moment of our lives.

So, if we want to turn our lives around, or bring in greater abundance, or health, or safety, or happiness of any kind, we have only to learn the simple steps of manipulating our “feelings,” and a whole new world of plenty opens up for the asking.”
